Athletes in action: Football

These athletes, all with local high school ties, are scheduled to compete this week in the following events:

Dylan Kennedy, Bridgewater College
High school: Hampton Christian High School

Background: Kennedy is a 2009 graduate of Hampton Christian. On the football field he was part of a team that went 8-3 and advanced to the state semifinals. He was a second-team all-state honoree and academic all-conference selection. Born Oct. 24, 1991 the son of Tom and Pam Kennedy, he is majoring in international studies at Bridgewater College. Kennedy is from Hampton.

Donnell Dixon, Delaware State University
High school: Phoebus High School
Upcoming schedule:

Saturday, Oct. 13, versus South Carolina State
Background: Dixon is a 2007 graduate of Phoebus High School. He led the football team to the AAA Division 5 state title during 2006 as a senior. That season Dixon led the team with 32 receptions for 500 yards. He also competed in track and field at Phoebus. Born July 23, 1989, the son of Michael and Dawn Dixon, he attended Delaware State after turning down a track scholarship at Maryland-Eastern Shore. Dixon is from Hampton.
